The DIO foundation gives support and advice in the field of animal health and production to the poorer people of the world, irrespective of country of origin, beliefs or political interests. The main tool in DIO's efforts is the Veterinairy Information Service (V.I.S.).

The V.I.S. is a free information service provided by DIO to individuals and organizations working in developing countries. The service answers questions in the field of veterinary medicine. By offering this service DIO aims to pass on veterinary knowledge and provide people in developing countries with support and assistance from the Netherlands.

Furthermore, DIO tries to help by giving advice on animal diseases and other veterinary issues and they promotes awareness in The Netherlands of the importance of animal health in development co-operation.

Within The Netherlands DIO is a unique organization. It is the only organization that concentrates primarily on the health of animals and its relationship to the survival of people. This aspect is strongly underrated within Dutch development organizations.

DIO works completely with volunteers and our office is located on the veterinary faculty of the University of Utrecht, with which we have strong ties.

In the past, DIO has conducted a number of projects in various countries including India. DIO concentrates on small-scale projects, for which adequate financing and manpower can be found. DIO's focus is on providing its services from The Netherlands. Some of the projects conducted in India are:
  • Dairy project Suchaneripatti, Kamarajar District, Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with India NGO (SPEECH) for the development of a small-scale credit project.

  • In Udhagamandalam, in Southern India, DIO helped set up a goat project in collaboration with the local partner organization USSS (Udhagamandalam Social Service Society).
