India today is one of the frontline nations in Engineering and Information Technology and knowledge industry with the third largest reservoir and technical manpower. India has some of the best institutions, which are recognized globally for their quality. The tertiary level educational institutions in India offer a wide range of courses in the filed of engineering, medicine, agriculture, management, humanities and social sciences, fine arts, science and also in emerging areas of bio-technology, bio-informatics, space technology.

Government of India has created an exclusive scheme called Direct Admissions of Students Abroad (DASA) wherein 15% of seats have been reserved in premier technical institutions such as 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other centrally funded Institutions for Foreign Nationals/Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). These institutions are comparable to the best in the world and are known for providing quality education in Engineering and Technology. All these institutions are `Deemed Universities' and are fully funded by the Government of India. Besides having high academic standards, they have good facilities for accommodation, sports and extra curricular activities. These institutions offers B.Tech in various discipline such as Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Computer Science, Mechanical, Information Technology, Civil, etc., and also B.Arch course. Some of the institutions also offer courses in specialised areas such as Ceramic Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Textile/Food/Leather Technology and Agricultural Engineering, etc.

Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed.CIL), a Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has been designated as the' Coordinating Agency' and a 'Single-Window Facility' for the direct admissions under the DASA Scheme.
