Assam and the Seven Sisters - Wildlife Sanctuary

Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary
Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary is in the Sonitpur district of North Assam and is a wildlife sancturay. It has an area of about 175 km 2. Extending along the Himalayan foothills it offers a magnificent view of both scenery and wildlife. The main attraction of the sanctuary is Wild Buffelo and elephnats. Deer, one horned rhinoceros, leopard, tiger are some of the other animals found in the sanctury.

Th Sonai Rupai Wildlife sanctury is also the home of birds like Bengal Florican, Swamp Francolin, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Slender-billed Vulture, White-winged Duck etc.

The best time to visit the sancturay is November to March.

The nearest railway station is Rangapara 60-kms from Bhalukpong, in Sonitpur district. The nearest airport is Saloni about 10-km from Tezpur, which is 181-km away from Guwahati.
