Assam and the Seven Sisters - Wildlife Sanctuary

Dibru-Saikhowa National Wildlife Park
Dibru-Saikhowa is another National Wildlife Park of Assam. It is located at about 13 kms north of Tinsukia town and about 515 kms from Guwahati

The Dibru and Saikhowa reserve forests along with a few other areas were united in 1986 and was declared a wildlife Sanctury. In 1999 it became a National Park. The area of the National Park is about 340 sq. km.

Dibru Saikhowa National Park is one of the biodiversity hotspots in the world. Dibru-Saikhowa consists of Wetland, grassland and dense forest.

The main attractions of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park are Feral Horses, which is a bright coloured semi-wild horse and White winged Wood- Duck. Some rare and endangered animals of this sanctuary are Hoolock gibbon, Capped langur, Slow loris, Indian bison, tiger, elephnats, Gangetic river dolphin etc.

More than 250 varieties of local and migratory birds are also found in this Park. Some of them are: Spot billed pelican, White bellied heron, Pale capped pigeon, Swamp Francolin etc.

The migratory birds are: Greylag goose, Brahmini duck,, Bar-headed Goose, Pelicans, Black stork etc.

Other animals are Clouded_leopard, leopard, elephnats, Sambar Deer, Indian Wild Dog etc.

Special permission is required for entry into the park. Guijan Ghat (10km from Tinsukia) and Saikhowa ghat are the two entry points for tourists.

Entry before sunrise and after sunset as well as night halt and picnicking inside the Park is not allowed.

Dhadia and Laika are two forest villages situated inside the park.

The best season to visit is from November to March.

Dibrugarh is the nearest airport which is about 40km away from Tinsukia Town. There are regular flights from major cities like Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati to Dibrugarh.

Dibrugarh is also the nearest railhead which is linked with Guwahati by a broad gauge and it is also connected with other cities by express and super fast trains.
