Assam and the Seven Sisters - Wildlife Sanctuary

Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary
Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Dhubri District of Assam and is about 68 km from Dhubri.

This area was recognised as a Sanctuary by the Govt. of Assam on 14th July'1994. Covering an area of about 46 km2, the sanctuary is surrounded by hills and there are two lakes on either side of the sanctuary.

Chakrasila is also home to the Golden Langurs (Presbytis Geei), a critically endangered primate species. The Golden Langur was discovered here in the year 1986. Listed in the IUCN Red Data Book 2003 as globally endangered, the golden langur's habitat is restricted by the Brahmaputra on the south, and by the Sonkosh and the Manas on the west and the east respectively. At present its population is estimated to be around 5,000, spread over the habitats in Assam and Bhutan

Various other mammals, birds, reptiles and butterfly species are found in this area.

The best time to visit is November to April.
