Stichting Kalai Manram (Foundation Kalai Manram) was etsblished in 1989 with the following objectives: 

• To support the folk theatre traditions in India and the activities of the Kattaikkuttu Sangam in particular;
• Mediate in providing and/or exchanging artistic and organisational expertise and knowledge.

In 1990 a group of Kattaikkuttu artists founded the Tamilnadu Kattaikkuttu Kalai Valarcci Munnerra Sangam ( Kattaikkuttu Sangam) to promote the Kattaikkuttu theatre tradition as an art form in its own right and as a medium for communication of development messages. Furthermore, the Kattaikkuttu Sangam supports Kattaikkuttu actors and musicians and provides free training facilities in Kattaikkuttu to the younger generation.

Kalai Manram provides a financial buffer from which the Kattaikkuttu Sangam can draw to bridge gaps when funding from other sources is not directly forthcoming. . It is the Dutch subsidairy of the Kattaikkuttu Sangam of Tamil Nadu.
