After his retirement, Wahid is considered as belonging to the category of Community Activists because of his devotion and untiring efforts in the field of NRI/PIO socio-cultural activities.

The Global Indian, a magazine published from the UAE in their inaugural issue (Middle East edition) carried a special edition on Global Indians Making a Difference: How the 100 achievers among the Diaspora are making waves.

One hundred NRIs/PIOs from different parts of the world were selected by The Global Indian as the achievers. It is a matter of joy Wahid already knighted by the Queen Beatrix, now occupies also a place among the 100 Global Indians reaching for the top. It is indeed a striking recognition of the excellent work that Wahid has been doing over so many years.

It is not a small matter to be counted among the 100 most valued Indians all over the world, and to be ranked on par with the various luminaries like Sabeer Bhatia (Hotmail founder), Amartya Sen (Nobel Laureate), Har Gobind Khorna (Nobel Laureate), C.K. Prahlad (Management Guru), Jagdish Bhagawati (International Trade Scholar), Lord Meghnad Desai (academician), Vinod Khosla (entrepreneur), Sir V.S. Naipaul (Nobel Laureate) , Salman Rushdie(Novelist), Shashi Tharoor(Writer), L.N. Mittal, The Hindujas, Swarja Paul etc.
