ICDI works internationally for children and youth at risk. It develops projects, programmes and policies, offers consultancy services, and undertakes evaluations and action research. It is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation. ICDI is a knowledge-based organisation. Some of the areas where ICDI has been working are:

ICDI has completed the following projects in India:

• Review of NGOs working on child labour in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand with a view to strengthening their programmes. UNDP, New Delhi.
• Preparation of a book on the M.V. Foundation, Andhra Pradesh, India as part of the UNDP series of monographs on best practices for getting children out of work and into school. UNDP, New Delhi.
