AMIDSt aims to be an international important player in the fields of metropolitan studies, spatial planning and international development studies. It sets out an institutional framework that supports interdisciplinary collaboration and integrated perspectives and facilitates top-level research in those different fields. As its staff expertise cuts across the North-South divide, AMIDSt contributes to debates on urban regional governance and public policy both in the North and in the South.
Some of the projects of AMIDSt in India are:
- Local governance, civil society and partnerships; contrasting
community enablement in providing services for the urban poor:
Kumasi, Ghana and Chennai, India
- Enabling strategies for environmental management in multi-million
cities: an integrated economic and environmental assessment of solid
waste system in Kenya and India
