The name Garmpani derives from Gram (warm/hot) and Pani(water). As the name suggests this area is famous for it's hot water springs.

The Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary was a reserve forest since 1952. The wildlife sanctury covers only about 6,05 km². It is stituated in the Karbi Anglong district about 65 kms from the Kaziranga National Park and 25kms from Golaghat. Itis recongnised as a Wild Life Sanctury by the government of Assam since 1952.

This sanctury is also home to a large variety of birds and reptiles. Animals found here are Elephants, Leopard, Tiger, Deer, Golden Langurs, Hoolok Gibbons etc.
