Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary
Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary is located to the northeast of Anini the headquarters of the Upper Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. The sanctuary was established in 1991 and has an area of 4149 sq km.
Apart from the lush green and abundant vegetation, some of the animals seen in this area are: musk deer, serow, takin, goral, black bear red panda, leopard. Some of the bird species found in this habitat are: monal tragopan, khalij, and other pheasants.
Northeast India held a unique place in the world biodiversity map. The region also enjoys the highest primate diversity in India harboring 9 species out of the total 15 primate species in the country. However, in vast areas of the Arunachal Pradesh including Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary any systematic primate survey is yet to be carried out. Due to its bio-geographical continuity with Myanmar and China, there remains the possibility of occurrence of high primate diversity in Dibang area.
The Idu Mishmi tribes live around this Santuary.
Anini is connected to Roing, the gate way to Dibang valley by regular bus and taxi services. The nearest Airport is Dibrugarh which has regular flight connection to New Delhi and Kolkata by Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Sahara Airways. Pawan Hans Helicopter Service connects Anini to Itanagar. The nearest railhead is Tinsukia Junction Railway Station, from where one can pick a bus to the sanctuary.
Circuit House and PWD Inspection Bunglow are available for the tourists in Arunachal Pradesh. Best Time to Travel : November to February.
