As of May 1st, 2004, the Protestant Church in the Netherlands is the continuation of three former churches, the Netherlands Reformed Church, the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In the final years of the unification process the three churches, 'together on the way' (Dutch: Samen op Weg), referred to themselves as the Uniting Protestant Churches in the Netherlands (UPCN).

UPCN keeps contact with organisations and churches also in India. The most important contact is with the churches in South India. In India UPCN has also contact with a few theological institutions and organisations invloved with village development works. UPCN and its members regularly supports development projects in India mainly carried out by the churches of the same orders in India.
