Calcutta Rescue aims to support the poorest people in and around Calcutta through providing medical treatment to those who can't afford regular medical treatment. Furthermore a lot of time and resources are spent to prevent and treat chronical diseases. Calcutta Rescue also give education to children of the slums and gives lessons to small groups of ex-patients in spinning and weaving.

In Calcutta these objectives are brought to action through the help of local employees. Volunteers from the West support them.

Calcutta Rescue was started in 1980 by the English medical doctor Dr. Jack Preger. More then 100 Dutch volunteers have worked for Calcutta Resvue in the last 15 years.
