Dr. Jayanth Balasubramanian received his initial training in Mridangam from Palghat P. K. Sekhar. He then pursued advanced lessons under the guidance of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Dr. T. K. Murthy.

Jayanth has been performing as an accompanying Mridangist for concerts for over a decade now. He has performed in several musical institutions in India, in the USA and more recently in Europe.

He has also conducted workshops and lecture-demonstrations on Carnatic percussion. Jayanth has to his credit several awards for his skills as accompanist as well as for solo performances.

Jayanth holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
