The Foundation Actie Calcutta is a national organisation dedicated to the underprivileged children of Kolkatta (Calcutta). The Foundation was established in 1968 as a result of the national support to Mother Teresa. But now it is an independent organisation, operating not only in West Bengal but also in Orissa and Bihar.

The aim of the Foundation is to find sponsors who would be willing to fund the basic education of one or more children in the age group of 6 - 18 years for one or more years. One can sponsor a child by donating € 100,00 per year. 

As the work of the Foundation is carried out on a voluntary basis, 100% of the donation is invested in the education of the sponsored child. 

At present individuals, schools and institutions sponsor through the Foundation Actie Calcutta more than 4.000 children. Another 8.000 children profit from the efforts of the foundation. 

Most of the children stay in hostels. This guarantee's not only a good education but also provide them with food and lodging. This is very important for the students from the countryside. It is not possible for them to cover the long distance from home to school on a daily basis.

A few of the students live permanently in the hostels, as their parents don't have the means to support them.
